The chain of custody includes the monitoring of wood-based products through the different phases of transformation and sales processes of such products, to ensure wood traceability, from the forest to the final consumer.
Any company engaging in the primary or secondary transformation of wood that wishes to demonstrate that its final products use wood that comes from forests with sustainable development need a valid chain of custody certificate.
The forest products chain of custody is the phase that follows the certification of sustainable forest management and is necessary to verify that the wood forming part of any product comes from a forest in which sustainable development practices have been carried out.
Organisations may choose for either an individual certification or a grouped certification (multi-site mode).
This certification includes the issuance of the AENOR forest products chain of custody certificate and a license to use the PEFC Mark.
Through the use of this mark, companies are promoting the sustainable development of the forests from which their products come.
